My Summer 2013 Playlist

I do not know about all of you, but summer is one of my favorite times of the year. There are cookouts, pool parties, concerts/music festivals, road trips, just relaxing with friends and so much more. It is great!

One of my favorite things to do each summer is to create a playlist of songs to serve as the soundtrack for such events or even just going out and driving.  With that said, I have decided to share my playlist with you on here and on Spotify. A majority of the songs I selected have been released since last summer (except for a select few) and range over many different genres. Feel free to “follow” it in the event I decide to add some more songs, share it with your friends and use it as much as you would like. I hope that you enjoy it!

Hope Will Take You Home.

Hello everyone!

It has been quite a long time since I have shared with you on this here blog page. In all honesty, this will probably one of the few times that I do bring this out of hibernation for the next few months while I finish up my college career.  What I am here to share is really important to me though.

The end of 2012, and the start of 2013 has consumed a lot of bands. One of these bands is made up of who I consider to be my best friends. Owosso, Michigan based sosaveme has decided that it is best for each of the members to step away from the 8 year project so that they are each able to continue to grow individually and pursue other areas of life.

In today's society, the music industry has almost evolved into a market of mindless lyrics and simple chord progressions. It sells because it is simple and catchy (Yes, I know and I agree that this is a generalization and that not all music falls into this description). My point here is that sosaveme was my first real exposure to music that was raw, honest, and filled with emotion. Each of their tracks were written from the heart and from personal experiences. This allows the listener to connect to the music in a unique way.

The first time that I ever saw sosaveme was at the Rock United show in the summer of 2009 at The Gear Music Venue in Franklin, Indiana. They were the only band out of 8 or so on the bill that I had not seen before. Their message straight up wrecked me. I actually ended up sitting against the wall on the side of the venue crying like a little baby as they played The Crafty Harlot followed by The Sea.

After the show, I ended up talking with Nick (the vocalist) about a friend of mine who was going through a tough time and about my own story a little bit as well. Before I left, he had introduced me to the rest of the guys and gave me his number and told me to keep him updated and to let him know if I ever needed anything. Ever since that night, Nick, Jon, Justin, and Austin have become some of who I consider my best friends and older brothers. I look up to them more than I can express in this little blog post.

I guess what I am trying to get at, is that I strongly encourage you to go and give their music a listen. If you don't have any money to buy an album, let me know and I would gladly order you a copy or something. You can get some of their stuff on Spotify, or purchase it at iTunes or at www.sosaveme.com

Nick, Jon, Justin, and Austin:
Thank you for everything that you have done. The sacrifices you have made to share your music. Taking the time to get to know the people who come out and to see you guys play. Each of you are a huge blessing to those around you. I am very appreciative of each of you and your friendship.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have posted a video of one of my favorite songs off of their last album, The Garden. Check it out, and check out the farewell dates this spring as well.

Until next time,
-Andrew

When Love is the Current Pulling From Your Hands...

...It's all you want. It's all you're after.

Hello there friends!

Recently I have been on an Ace Enders kick and wanted to share his newest music video with you! Ace is in a group called The Early November, and they just released a video for the title track of their newest record, In Currents. The cinematography of the video is phenomenal, as well as the lighting. I love it! Let me know what you think of the video and the music style.

With love,

Better days are held in a photograph of summer escapes...

On this fine summer's morning, I am sitting at Gate B10 at the Indianapolis airport (The same spot where I got to start a journey to Brazil with a few friends a little over a year ago! I miss that place and my friends there so much!) waiting to fly down to Pensacola to meet up with my family to spend the week with my family in Gulf Shores. I've been on a huge Deas Vail kick all summer long and have been meaning to post about them; however, I have just failed to find the time to make this happen. Seeing as my sister and I missed our first flight and have a 3 hour wait, so I figured there would be no better time than now! :)

So here is the deal, I am going to start off and say that Deas Vail is amazing. I just got to see them for the first time about a month ago and I was blown away. They are all incredibly talented and sound just as good live as they do on their records (minus the awful sound mixing by the venue, but I won't get on that soap box) The band is formed up of a group of college friends who have been playing since around 2005. They came up with their name based on a combination of Latin and French that translates out to be "A humble servant to God."  Currently they are signed with the record label Mono vs. Stereo, which is a branch out of Gotee Records. The group has put out 3 full length albums and a few EPs as well. Enough of my blabbering on of my band crush, and I'll just let you listen for yourself. Included below are multiple videos for your enjoyment! Use the comment section to let me know what you guys think!

Have a great day and enjoy your summer; because, "Summer days are held in a photograph. It's never the same, and we can't go back."

Love you guys!

One Restless Summer, We Found Love Growing...

Hey everyone! It's SPRING BREAK! Finally! I don't know about everyone else, but I have been in dire need of a chance to just relax and not worry/stress about things going on in life!

Well, to kick off my spring break, I wanted to share with you the music of a very talented girl named Alex Masters. Currently she is in a contest to open up for Dave Barnes, and she definitely deserves to win it. So click on the link below and give a listen to her cover of Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter and if you like what you hear, vote for her and share it with your friends! Voting really takes less than 30 seconds and I know that she would appreciate it a lot!

We're Gonna Be The Ones Who Put This City On

Within the past 24 hours, a music video based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana has received over 7,000 views. The video was put together by a community of hip-hop artists from the city and the goal was to showcase their talents all the while advocating community involvement and working together. The project is called HipHop4theCity and their goal is to create a better Fort Wayne. If you want to know more about the project, check out their website: http://hiphop4thecity.com/about-the-project

This video means a lot to me because some of my good friends were camera ops for the video, and the director is a professor at Huntington who has taken an interest in spending time and reaching out to the floor I am apart of. It has been really awesome to hear the stories from them, and then see the video come together as well as it did. Check it out and if you like it, share it. Post it to friends Facebook walls. Tweet the YouTube or Vimeo link. Just do something to help spread the word and get your city on.
