I Am Restless

This past Tuesday Switchfoot released their new album "Vice Verses." I will be posting a review of the album soon once I am able to give it a more thorough listen. In the mean time, here is the song and lyrics of the track that has stuck out to me the most thus far. The song is titled Restless. Enjoy it and check out the new album! :)

It's Like Kerosine To The Flame....

Alright so here is the deal, my friends in the band Sosaveme just put out a music video for their debut single off their new album "The Garden" that is set to release on October 4th.  The song is titled "Gentle Slope" and the video is very intriguing. I have shown it to a few friends that are studying film production and we each have a different take on the video. I was wondering what everyone thought about it and the meaning behind it.  Use the comment section to discuss/post your thoughts! Here it is:

Thanks!

Come&Live Revolution

In today's music industry, one of the top priorities for record labels is to make money. Plain and simple. Often times this means that artists get their albums put in stores and make approximately a dollar for each album sold. This is a huge rip off on the artists, just for the perks of having a label take care of the management side of the music world for them.

Come&Live! Record Label has set out to impact the music industry and change the reality of a label/band partnership for musicians. C&L! is a non-profit record label and their mission is to work with artists and equip them to use their music as a ministry. They have coined the term "musicianary" to describe the artists on their label. One of the unique things about the label is that most of their signed artists offer their music for free on the label's website with an option to donate and support the band. This is an awesome concept in the fact that they fully rely on their faith and their supporters to fund their work. It brings new meaning to the phrase artists use so often from the stage, "we couldn't do this without you." It involves the listener by enabling them to be a part of something more than just a big paycheck for a record label executive.

If you get the chance, you should check out their artists' music (they have signed bands of genres that range from hardcore all the way to worship), the albums are on the download page of the site and if you feel led then you can make a monetary donation or even donate with a Tweet. Their website is www.comeandlive.com or you can just click the link on my menu bar.

The video posted below is an acoustic performance by one of the Come&Live! bands Ascend the Hill. Enjoy!

The Intro

Why hello there, and welcome to Off the Record. This first post is just to give a little bit more in depth description of my purpose or drive behind this blog, as well as to list my current Top 10 Most played bands on my iTunes.

The idea behind the blog is rooted in my passion for music. Music impacts my everyday life, and I strongly believe that it impacts others' lives as well. Music stimulates emotions in us even if we don't realize this. I love music's power to reach every single person in a unique way, and that is why I want to work in the music industry one day, so that I can use it to impact the lives of those I come in connect with! My goal for this blog is to post approximately 3 times a week. Posts will be based on what music I have been listening to that week and I will expound on its meaning to me. Occasionally I will also post a Top 10 list, an album review, and even some YouTube videos of some cover songs that I enjoy. So in conclusion, Off the Record is my outlet to share my passion for music and what has been fueling that passion on a day to day basis. I hope that you enjoy reading it, and if you ever have some constructive criticism, I would love to hear it so that I can learn from it and grow to make this a better blog!

Now that that has all been said, these are the Top 10 artists that have been playing on my iTunes recently:

1. Forever the Sickest Kids (Pop Punk)
2. Ascend the Hill (Worship)
3. All Time Low (Pop Punk)
4. The Sleep Design (Instrumental Rock)
5. Damien Rice (Folk/Acoustic)
6. Taking Back Sunday (Rock)
7. We Are The In Crowd (Pop Punk)
8. Close Your Eyes (Progressive Pop Punk/Hardcore)
9. Yellowcard (Alternative/Pop Punk)
10. A Day To Remember (Post-Hardcore)

If you are looking for some good study music, I would highly recommend the album All That Is Not Music Is Silence by The Sleep Design. It is free if you click the link at the top of my page for "Come and Live!"  From there, click the downloads link and find the album and you will be set! It is really good!

I look forward to posting some music really soon! Thanks for reading!
